Our Story
Since opening in May 2013, Bright Box has hosted more than 2,000 shows of all kinds — bluegrass, jam, punk, reggae, jazz, rock, Conservatory performances, comedy, drag shows, burlesque performances, plus elaborately themed private parties and fundraisers.
We have brought in tens of thousands of locals and visitors and served as the central beating heart of downtown Winchester, Virginia. In 2019 alone we hosted more than 220 events, and over the years, have featured regionally and nationally famous musical acts and comedians such as Keller Williams, Nappy Roots, Tim Reynolds, Moon Hooch, Gallagher, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Dustin Diamond, Seldom Scene, Carl Palmer, Hackensaw Boys, Leyla McCalla, Gaelic Storm, Street Corner Symphony, Jimmie “JJ” Walker, Amish Outlaws, Bubba Sparxxx, Abby The Spoon Lady, and Reckless Kelly, to name just a few.
In addition to Grammy-winning artists and comedians that have been seen on Comedy Central and The Tonight Show, we’ve also been a platform for local talent to develop a homegrown fanbase, with several of these acts going on to become nationally touring performers. A partnership with Shenandoah University has allowed us to present performances featuring students, faculty, and world-renowned composers and musicians. We’ve also collaborated with countless members of the community to host benefit events, fundraisers, film screenings, and city-organized celebrations.
